On
June 24, 2009, at the French Embassy in New York City, Geoffrey Bradfield,
Libby Cameron, Thomas Jayne, Charlotte Moss, and Bunny Williams hosted
a brunch to announce the redesign of Pulitzer Prize winner Edith Wharton's
estate The Mount. Entitled “Salute to French Design” The
Mount's 2010 exhibition is built around the design principals
Wharton outlined in her famous book “On the Decoration of Houses.”
Edith Wharton was often noted for saying that the French were "born
with superb taste”, it is with this quote that The Mount's
2020 exhibition was created. "Salute to French Design," will
feature France's leading designers, who will decorate both the exterior
and interior spaces of The Mount. The designers will participate
under the patronage of world famous Andree Putman, who's grandmother
coincidentally translated Wharton's novels into French.
The Mount is located in the Berkshire Hills of Lenox, Massachusetts. It
is one of only five percent of National Landmarks to be dedicated to
women.
