The
first Pro Am Tennis Tournament at Ross School's new Tennis Center
was attended by over 300 guests to support Ross School programs and
scholarships. The benefit, on Saturday, June 27, 2009, celebrated the
new Ross School Tennis Center and was part of Ross School's initiative
to expand its athletic programs and facilities, which include a multi-purpose
playing field for soccer and lacrosse, a baseball diamond, six indoor-outdoor
Har-tru tennis courts, an outdoor basketball court and Upper School
Fieldhouse. The event also honored the Friedrich Family and the JAF
Foundation (USA).
The Pro Am Tennis Tournament's festivities began with Congressman
Tim Bishop hosting the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Hosted by Jim Grabb,
(twice ranked the world's number 1 doubles player, and 2-time
singles All-American), the tournament featured matches with celebrity
tennis pros Luke Jensen, Murphy Jensen and Todd Martin. The event included
a special “Play with a Pro” tennis clinic for students,
and a live auction hosted by Sean Stewart and Murphy Jensen. The day
concluded with a cocktail reception with food donated by Michael Gluckman,
owner of East Hampton's Bamboo Restaurant and Sushi Lounge, vodka
by Russian Standard Platinum Vodka, tea by Plain T, and wine by Michael
Cinque, proprietor of Amagansett Wine and Spirits. This event was also
made possible by the generous contributions of tennis shirts by Tommy
Hilfiger Corporation and car service by East End Limousine.
