On
Wednesday, September 30, 2009, New Yorkers for Parks held its Annual
Benefit Gala at the Plaza Hotel in New York.
The evening honored the “Women
of Parks” who have shown extraordinary commitment to help beautify,
create and protect New York City’s parks and open spaces. This
esteemed group of women has created a lasting legacy through their tireless
efforts, and the Gala celebrated the many contributions these women have
made to making New York City greener.
This year’s honorees were
Ann L. Buttenwieser, the “Floating Pool Lady” and author of the new book Governors
Island, Bette
Midler,
founder of the New York Restoration Project, Lynden
B. Miller, public
garden designer, Elizabeth Barlow Rogers, President of the Foundation
for Landscape Studies, and Tupper Thomas, President of the Prospect Park
Alliance.
Event proceeds allow New Yorkers for Parks to continue its
efforts to ensure that all New Yorkers enjoy a world-class parks system.
