On
Tuesday, April 7, 2009, The National Arts Club's Literary Committee
presented Joyce Carol Oates with their prestigious Medal of Honor
for her work as one of America's most respected and honored
writers. The dinner took place at the National Arts Club
in New York.
Since 1968, The National Arts Club's Literary Committee has
honored those literary community influentials with their Medal of
Honor. This nationally coveted award is presented to the author of
a body of work that has proven literary excellence; the recipient
is chosen by the Literary Committee members. Aldon James, president
of The National Arts Club, presented Oates with this distinguished
award.
Joyce Carol Oates, Gloria Vanderbilt, Daniel Halpern, Edmund White
and Gregory Heisler were in attendance among many others from the
literary arts community.
