The
NYU Langone Medical
Center held its annual Violet Ball on Tuesday,
May 5, 2009, and raised $4.5 million in unrestricted funds. The
gala at Cipriani 42nd Street was chaired by Robert I. Grossman, M.D.,
Dean and CEO of the Medical Center, and honored long-time supporters
Susan and Martin Lipton. Dr. Grossman also announced that a residence
hall that will house 300 faculty, nurses, and physicians will be renamed
in honor of the Liptons.
Martin Lipton, a founding partner of the law firm Wachtell, Lipton,
Rosen & Katz, is a trustee of NYU Langone Medical Center, chairman
of the Board of New York University, and a trustee of NYU Law School. Together
with Susan, the Liptons have been immensely supportive of the Medical
Center, and their leadership and experience are particularly valuable
to an institution of such size and breadth.
