On
Monday, April 27, 2009, The New
York Pops held its 26th Birthday Gala
at Carnegie Hall. The evening celebrated Feinstein's at Loews
Regency on its tenth anniversary and honored Michael Feinstein and
Jonathan Tisch for leading this great New York institution. Music Director
Steven Reineke led The New York Pops in 'Musical Journeys', an all-star
26th Birthday Gala concert which featured performances by Michael Feinstein,
Barbara Cook, Brian d'Arcy James, Idina Menzel, Ashford and Simpson,
Anika Noni Rose, Cheyenne Jackson and Sara Caswell. followed by a black
tie dinner dance at The Pierre.
Liz Smith was the evening host. Honorary chairs were Her Royal Highness
Princess Christina of the Netherlands, Renée Jones-Bos, Ambassador
of the Netherlands to the United States, and Michael Gallagher, United
States Chargé d'Affaires to the Netherlands. Max Rutten
was Corporate Chair. The Gala Leadership Committee was co-chaired by
June Freemanzon, Nancy Rabstejnek Nichols and Bill Schermerhorn. Committee
members included: Ron Budny, Kersen de Jong, Rick Friedberg, Lynn Henderson,
Ruth Henderson, Francine LeFrak, Dr. Sherrie Maricle, Annette McGuinness,
Margo MacNabb Nederlander, Patty Read, Roberta (Bobbi) Smith, Jan Tishman,
Lisa Travatello, and Wesley Whatley.
