On
November 17, 2009, New Yorkers For Children (NYFC) and Joba
Chamberlain of the 2009 World Series Champion New York Yankees hosted the Seventh
Annual “Wrap to Rap,” an afternoon of wrapping holiday
gifts for children in foster care in New York City. DJ D-Nice spun
hip-hop and holiday classics and guests enjoyed a special performance
from Kerry Butler, Constantine Maroulis, Angel
Reed, Emily Padgett, Becca Tobin and Michele
Mais of Broadway’s Rock of Ages at Club
Terrace at Madison Square Garden. The NYFC Board and Friends Committee
joined over 100 teens in foster care to wrap more than 1500 toys and
gifts. Wrapped gifts will be distributed by the Administration for
Children’s Services to children in foster care throughout New
York City during this holiday season.
In addition to providing much-needed
holiday gifts for children in care, Wrap to Rap served as a reminder
to teens in foster care of the importance of volunteerism and giving
back to their community. This year’s Wrap to Rap was made possible
through the generosity of sponsors Delta Air Lines, Wal-Mart, Scotch
brand from 3M, Commonwealth Packaging Company, Alternative Apparel
and Madison Square Garden.
