On
Tuesday, April 21, 2009, MoMA hosted a reception to celebrate the opening
of Compass in Hand: Selections from The Judith Rothschild Foundation
Contemporary Drawings Collection, an
exhibition that features 300 works by over 150 artists from this collection.
This exhibition, the largest drawings exhibition ever mounted at MoMA,
features selections from the donation of approximately 2,500 works
on paper by more than 650 artists that entered the Museum's collection
in 2005. The exhibition is organized by Christian Rattemeyer, The Harvey
S. Shipley Miller Associate Curator of Drawings, with Cornelia H. Butler,
The Robert Lehman Foundation Chief Curator of Drawings, and will be
on view from April 22 through July 27, 2009.
Many artists in the exhibition, as well as those included in the entire
collection, were in attendance. They included: Polly Apfelbaum,Tony Fitzpatrick,
Paul Graham, Ellsworth Kelly, Jim Lambie, Glenn Ligon, Nate Lowman, Brice
Marden, Marilyn Minter, Tony Oursler, Kembra Pfahler, Jack Shear, Kiki
Smith, and Lawrence Weiner.
Other attendees were: Andrew Andrew, Cornelia Butler, Kathleen Fuld,
Thelma Golden, Anton Kern, Werner H. Kramarsky, Glenn Lowry, Harvey
S. Shipley Miller, Jamie Niven, Mary Kate Olsen, Christian Rattemeyer,
