The
2009 Houston Ballet Ball, Magnificent Marie, was held on Saturday,
February 21, 2009 at the Wortham Theater Center in Houston. Chairmen
for this year's gala were Kimberly DeLape and Alicia Smith.
Auction chairman Christopher Mendel brought to the Ballet several
extraordinary items including ♦ Qatar Airways – an exclusive
trip to Seychelles on one of Qatar's luxury planes; ♦ a
seven day Mediterranean Cruise on The Yachts of Seaborn; ♦ Dinner
with Dikembe Mutombo at Mo's…A Place for Steaks; ♦ A
complete Manolo Blahnik Shoe Wardrobe from Neiman Marcus; ♦ a
one of a kind Fendi handbag; ♦ Golf with Joe Pesci; ♦ and
a one-week trip to an amazing private ten-bedroom chateau in the south
of France (Chateau Robert) complete with a private chef and day trips.
The décor, designed by The Events Company, re-created the Palace
of Versailles during the reign of Marie Antoinette. Dinner was presented
by Tony's. Houston Ballet II dancers performed a Minuet during
dinner followed by dancing to The David Caceres Band.
The Major Underwriters which contributed to the exciting evening included
the Albert and Margaret Alkek Foundation, Phoebe and Bobby Tudor, Jennifer
and Doug Bosch, Continental Airlines, Fayez Sarofim & Co., Kimberly
DeLape and Alicia Smith.
All proceeds will benefit the Houston Ballet Foundation which was
founded in 1955 with the vision to create a resident ballet company
and to start a school which would train its dancers. It is the Ballet's
mission to inspire a lasting love and appreciation for dance through
artistic excellence, exhilarating performances, innovative choreography
and superb educational programs.
