HealthCorps
took its fight against child obesity
diabetes to the Hammerstein Ballroom at “The Enchanted Garden“ Gala
on April 17, 2008. The health educational program, founded
by Dr. Mehmet Oz, honored three individuals making considerable
contributions to the health and well-being of American youth -
LL Cool J, entertainer and author; BK Boreyko, founder of Vemma
Nutrition Company; and Grace Cavnar, founder of Recipe for Success.
During the cocktail hour, guests enjoyed tasting tables, a silent
auction of extravagant treasures and meeting HealthCorps' savvy
staff of health coordinators. To introduce Dr. Oz, the Gala
kicked off with an elaborate song and dance number, “Welcome
to the Garden,” created by Broadway star Stepp Stewart and
executed by his talented dance troupe. Guests were brought
to their feet by rocking musical performances from Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame inductee GrandMaster Melle Mel, Broadway singer Elisabeth
Withers and The Eturnity Band.
Celebrity guests and attendees included New York
State Governor David Paterson, the
newly-crowned Miss USA Crystle Stewart making
her first public appearance, Miss Universe Riyo Mori, Fashion
Designer Donna Karan, former Knicks star John
Starks, Music Mogul and
Founder/CEO of Violator Management Chris Lighty, CBS
Network Correspondent Bianca
Solorzano, actress Tina Louise and Warner
Music Group Executive Vice President Kevin Liles.
