President
Bill Clinton and Bono made surprise appearances on April 21, 2009 to
support Jon Bon Jovi at the Food Bank for New
York City Can-Do Awards,
where he was honored for his tireless philanthropic efforts and his
dedication to helping in the fight against hunger. Designer
Kenneth Cole and his wife Maria Cuomo Cole were on hand and presented
Jon with the award. The annual event was held at Abigail
Kirsch's Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers on the Hudson River and
raised $1 million dollars!
Honorary Dinner chair Michael Stipe, joined co-chairs Mario Batali and
Susan Cahn and Master of Ceremonies Stanley Tucci in welcoming over 700
guests who were treated to a star-studded room of Food Back For New York
city supporters including Jimmy Fallon, Tom Colicchio,
Katie Ford, Katie Lee Joel, Rachael Ray, Steve Buscemi, Helena Christiansen,
Mariska Hargitay, Emeril Lagasse, Anthony Bourdain, Josh Charles and
New York Giants Chris Canty, among others. Musical performance
by Joseph Arthur and the Lonely Astronauts with special guest Mike Mills.
Also honored last night was Bed Stuy Campaign Against
Hunger. Auctioneer Billy Harris led the live auction that raised
$165,000. Jimmy Fallon and Emeril Lagasse split the first auction
item of dinner for 24 friends at your home to be cooked by David Chang,
Mario Batali and Tom Colicchio, which went for a whopping $60,000.
Food Bank for New York City sources and distributes food to more than
1,000 food assistance programs, assisting the approximately 1.3 million
New Yorkers who access emergency food.
