The
49th Annual Children's Memorial Pro Amateur Golf Championship was
held on Monday, June 29, 2009 at the Onwentsia Club in Lake Forest. The
tournament, hosted by the Founders' Board of Children's Memorial
Hospital, is the second oldest pro amateur golf tournament in the country.
The 2009 Pro Am raised $1.1 million which will support the Founders' Board's
$10 million pledge to the hospital's Department of Family Services.
Founders' Board members Molly South and Robin Zafirovski served
as co-chairs of the event and John Derse and John Ferguson were co-chairs
of the Men's Golf Committee.
Presenting sponsors for the 2009 Pro
Am were Huron Consulting Group and United Airlines. United has been a
sponsor of the Pro Am for the past 23 years.
This year's festivities
began with the Tee-Off Dinner, attended by more than 300 guests and hosted
by The Allstate Corporation and The Company Jet on Sunday, June 28 at
Shoreacres in Lake Bluff. Masters of Ceremony for the dinner were Jay
Levine of CBS2 and Mary Ann Childers. As the featured speaker, Charles
Tillman of the Chicago Bears shared his personal story of the life-saving
heart transplant his infant daughter received at Children's Memorial
last year. Tillman's daughter was the first baby in Illinois to
receive a Berlin Heart -- a state-of-the-art device that takes over the
pumping action of the heart and serves as a bridge to transplantation
while waiting for a donor heart.
On Monday, June 29, nearly 200 amateur
players from the ranks of Chicago's leading corporations and institutions
as well as 42 golf professionals from the most exclusive country clubs
throughout the U.S. convened at the Onwentsia Club for a fabulous day
of golf.
The day of golf ended at the 19th Hole Awards Party which was
sponsored by Forsythe Technology, Inc., Illinois Tool Works and NYSE/Euronext.
Jay Levine served as the host for the evening and the team with the lowest
net best ball was announced as the winner of the June Seaman Trophy.
This year's winners, with a score of 55, were Curt Kotel, Danny
Kotel, Thomas Kotel and Alan Lyne along with John Lanham of Prairie Dunes
Country Club in Hutchinson, Kansas.
The Founders' Board is committed
to supporting Children's Memorial through active participation
in hospital governance, volunteerism and advocacy.
