The
Women's Committee of the Central Park Conservancy took to the ice
on January 20, 2009 for their annual skating party honoring
the Playground Partners and Patrons of the Women's Committee, a group
whose fundraising efforts keep Central Park's 21 playgrounds safe
and well maintained.
Nearly 800 skaters of all levels and ages turned out, including
Douglas Blonsky, President of the Conservancy and Central Park Administrator;
Adrian Benepe, Commissioner of the Parks Department, Carol Herring,
Jennifer Yaffa, Sarah Robertson and Kamie Lightburn (co-chairs of
the Playground Partners and Patrons); Gillian Miniter and Sylvester
Miniter, with children Serena and Quint; Karen LeFrak, Bonnie Pope,
and Mark Gilbertson. Also attending were Suzanne Cochran and Bob
Cochran and Betsy Messerschmitt, President of the Women's Committee.
It was a brisk but bright evening, with the beautiful
midtown Manhattan skyline set off by the dark night. The DJ played
a little something for all age groups and everyone enjoyed the hot
cocoa and kid-friendly food.
