On
Tuesday, May 19, 2009, The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center
(CMS) hosted its Spring Gala celebrating the organization's
return to its home, the spectacular new Alice Tully Hall. With
200 guests in attendance, this black-tie benefit honored James D. Wolfensohn,
chairman of Wolfensohn & Company LLC and former president of The
World Bank Group.
The glamorous evening included cocktails, a seated dinner, and a special Mendelssohn
at 200 chamber
music concert. During dinner, long-time chairman of the Board
of CMS Peter Frelinghuysen gave a
warm introduction to the evening's honoree James D. Wolfensohn
who shared personal anecdotes with
the high-profile crowd about the unexpected beginnings of his musical
career as a cellist. Artistic
director David Finckel applauded Wolfensohn for his enduring love of
chamber music and his life-long
support of the Arts.
Immediately following the concert program, guests were treated to
a private reception where they enjoyed delectable desserts and mingled
with the artists. The evening's Gala chair was Peter
Duchin and the Benefit Committee included: Barrett
