The
Chicago Architecture Foundation's (CAF) 34th annual gala, The Burnham
Centennial Ball, attracted more than 600 guests and raised more than
$450,000 for youth education programs for The Chicago Architecture Foundation.
Held March 21, 2009 in Chicago's beautifully restored Palmer House
Hilton Hotel, this year's gala honored Richard H. Driehaus, Chairman
and Chief Investment Officer, Driehaus Capital Management as well as
USG Corporation, accepted by William C. Foote, Chairman and CEO.
Mr.
Driehaus was honored for his continuing commitment to the preservation
of Chicago's unique architectural treasures. USG was honored because
of their 100+ year history of innovation and leadership in architecture
and design.
Co-chairs were Heather McWilliams and Fred Fischer and Jacqueline
and Steven G.M. Stein. Honorary chairs were Bonnie Bartlit Vickrey and
Wilmont “Vic” Vickrey. Leading sponsors were The Richard
H. Driehaus Charitable Lead Trust and The Palmer House Hilton.
The evening
began with a cocktail reception in the Palmer House's Red Lacquer
Room moving to dinner and dancing in the Grand Ballroom. Magnificent
spring tulips graced the floral arrangements at each table. Dinner consisted
of an endive and cranberry salad and braised short ribs paired with giant
tiger prawns. A dessert sampler offered a variety of sweets including
the famous “Bertha Palmer” brownie. Guests danced to the
sounds of The Stanley Paul Orchestra.
