Ailey American Dance Theater (AADT), Ailey II, and gifted
students from The Ailey School performed together on Tuesday, May 5,
2009 on the world famous Apollo stage for the benefit Ailey at the
Apollo. The performance at the Apollo Theater, was followed by a gala
party, which has become known for its festive dress, décor and
dancing.
Ailey's golden celebration at the Apollo honored Ailey Board
of Trustees member Christopher J. Williams and his wife Janice Savin
Williams. The honorary chair was Tiki Barber. Co-chairs were
Anthony M. Carvette and Lynne Carvette and Catherine Davis. Vice chairs
were Celia McGee and Henry McGee, Elizabeth Mirante and Arthur J. Mirante
II, and Gabriella E. Morris.
The Performance included excerpts from Mauro Bigonzetti's Festa
Barocca and George Faison's Suite Otis by AAADT; Christopher
Huggins' When Dawn Comes… by Ailey II and Francesca Harper's
Documotion:One - Rave by The Ailey School. The performance culminated
with highlights of Alvin Ailey's timeless masterpiece Revelations
performed by members of AAADT, Ailey II and students from The Ailey
School.
