The
AIPAD Photography Show New York, presented by The Association of International
Photography Art Dealers held a Gala Preview on March 25, 2009 to benefit
the John Szarkowski Fund for photography acquisitions at The Museum
of Modern Art.
Clarissa Alcock Bronfman, David A. Dechman, and Richard E. Salomon
were co-chairs.
Agnes Gund, Robert B. Menschel, David Rockefeller and Jerry I. Speyer
were honorary co-chairs.
Guests included: David A. Dechman, Peter
Galassi, Marlene Hess, Builder Levy, Robert Locascio, Martin Margulies,
Robert Menschel, Richard E. Salomon,
Laurie Tisch, and Edgar Wachenheim.
John Szarkowski (1925-2007) was the director of MoMA's Department
of Photography from 1962 to 1991, and his exhibitions, books, and other
activities and programs greatly enriched the understanding and appreciation
of the art of photography. MoMA's John Szarkowski Fund, an endowment
to support photography acquisitions, will help to ensure the growth
and vitality of the collection that he did so much to nurture.
