American
Ballet Theatre (ABT) held its Opening Night Gala at the New York
City Center on Tuesday, October 21, 2008. The evening featured highlights
from the Fall season, which honors the centennial of the late choreographer,
Antony Tudor. A Gala Dinner at New York's Pierre Hotel followed
the performance. The evening raised $550,000 for the American
Ballet Theatre.
Board trustee Sharon Patrick was honored with the 2008 Melville
Straus Leadership Achievement Award, which recognizes exemplary leadership
and outstanding commitment to the arts. In addition, the inaugural
Northern Trust Award was presented to Lamin Periera dos Santos, a
student from the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet
Theatre.
Gala chairmen included Muffie Potter Aston and Sherrell Aston, Anne
Grauso and Mario Grauso and Julia Koch and David Koch. Gala
vice-chairs were Pamela Fielder and David B. Ford and Ruthe Ponturo
and Tony Ponturo. Lewis S. Ranieri served as Honorary Chair.
