Rusty Staub formed The New York Police and Fire Widow’s and Children’s Benefit Fund Foundation, Inc. in 1986 and is the Chairman of the Board of the Foundation. Since then the Foundation has raised more than $145 million dollars for the widows and children of police and fire officers who have been killed in the line of duty. Rusty is also the President of The Rusty Staub Foundation, which has raised over $7 million dollars to assist children and families through various services and programs. This includes Food Pantries and a Mobile Unit in the five boroughs of Manhattan, which serve over 650,000 meals to the needy. Funds for the Foundation are raised primarily through events held annually in the New York area, including a golf tournament in June and a wine auction dinner in October. Rusty was a six time All Star and the Club’s Most Valuable Player in different years for the Houston Astros, Montreal Expos and New York Mets. He is in the Hall of Fame of the New York Mets, Montreal Expos and Houston Astros. His #10 baseball jersey was the first number ever retired by the Montreal Expos organization.
