Biography
Gerald Wayne Clough is the Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution.

Education:
BS in Civil Engineering, Georgia Tech, 1960
MA, in Civil Engineering, Georgia Tech, 1965
PhD in Civil Engineering, University of California, Berkeley, 1969

Background:
Clough was the first alumnus to serve as the president of Georgia Tech (1994-2008).

Clough was named to the Presidents Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) in 2001, and to the National Science Board in 2004. He has served as the vice chair of the US Council on Competitiveness, chair of the National Academy of Engineerings Engineer 2020 Project, and chair of the National Academies Committee on New Orleans Regional Hurricane Protection Projects.
